Day after day, if you work hard you will earn your breaks, one step at a time until you reach the top, the pinnacle of your discipline.

Some people believe in hard work, others believe in fate, and some believe in both.

I believe in progression.

Progress. The fruits of one's labor. You do your time and you'll make your dime.

The entire civilization of this world has depended on progress to break down the walls of curiosity and lead a path into the future. By learning from our mistakes and reinventing everything we know, existence has carved out our place through progress.

Progress can be measured by different degrees, people sometimes refer to these as 'small steps' or 'leaps and bounds'.

Learning a new skill? That's progression.
Making a few extra bucks? That's progression.
Admitting your mistakes? Even that's progression.

The dreaded step backwards is as fateful as rain during an outdoor wedding, or is that a coincidence?

Procrastination. The enemy. The destructive one. The leveling of the playing field.

If procrastination was banned since the beginning of humans on earth, we would have created and mastered things like outerspace exploration, genetic cloning and time travel, ages ago. Honestly, Einstein would have been a proverbial 'Cave Man'.

Thanks a lot procrastination. Thanks for making us wait. Are you a Doctor's office? I will also add alcohol, sex, drugs, sports, reality television and Oprah to the list. Those are distractions too, are they not?

Perhaps we are already living in the golden age of civilization. Perhaps life doesn't get any better than this.

Has procrastination and progression always battled for our time?

Will they always battle for our time?

Eventually one will win. It has to happen. There can only be one.

The winner? Well, my vote goes to pro...

Hang on, I'll let you know next time.

The Title

The title of this blog is 'Lost in Superior'.

These words have a special meaning to me.

This is a phrase that gives me time to think.

It gives me time to breathe.

The words lost and superior are different from each other, their definitions in no way similar. If you were in fact superior then you would not be lost, and if you were lost, than you would not be in a superior position to someone who is not lost.

You can tell that these two words are hardly used together.

I thought of calling the blog, 'Lost and Superior' but the 'in' is more deceiving. I like that.

Deception. There's a term in itself. 'Lost in Deception' is a little too romantic for me.

So what am I getting at?

The name of this blog is 'Lost in Superior'. That's all.

You do not have to understand.

You do not have to ask questions.

It only has to make sense to me.

Just believe me when I say, I am lost in superior.

New Car Smell

Elation. Some people hate it, while others pray for it. It comes in various forms, some good, some bad, and some you haven't quite figured out. Sometimes it comes out of no where. Sometimes it is initiated. I guess you can say it all depends on the type of change we experience.

Somethings have recently changed in my life. Good things. In fact, they are very good things.

When good things happen to us we often ask ourselves, "Why did this happen to me?" Often, when bad things happen to us, we ask the same question. The most important part of this question however is the 'why'.

No one knows why good or bad things happen. Some people believe in the divine favour of God, for example calling things the will of God, or the will of whatever supreme being you believe in. Others put their faith in more systematic beliefs, such as Karma, and the old adage, "what comes around, goes around."

Good things happen to bad people, and bad things happen to good people. We have all seen it before. It will continue to happen for all of eternity. Change is not discriminatory.

The truth is that things happen for a reason.

Everything happens for a reason.

Change happens for a reason.

The reason however is never as clear as we would like it to be.

This is where the 'why' comes in, and the circle repeats itself. Why did this happen to me? If everything happens for a reason, and if the reason is not clear, then why did it happen?

There is the 'why' makes its big return.

I believe the the purpose of human existence is based on our the perpetual search of 'why'.

Equally important is the question of 'how'. For example, how did life on Earth come to be?

Why, however is less forgiving. Depending on the question, the two can mean the same thing.

All of this brings us back to change.

Change is the curve ball life throws at us time and time again to keep us guessing. Questioning the future, the past and the present, and everything around us. For me, as it is for others, change can destory and create, but it will always leave us guessing.

So next time change happens to you, whether it is good or bad, instead of asking yourself 'why' or 'how' ask yourself 'what's for supper', because there is no stopping change, and the only way to take it is to let it happen and move on for the next batch of change that's already coming your way.

And no, I don't mean Tim Horton's money...

The Internet is Boring

I have recently discovered that the internet is boring.

First it was chatrooms, then ICQ, then MSN, then MySpace, and now Facebook - the internet has changed over time and the most popular sites and uses have as well.

But now things are just becoming 'same old, same old'.

I am bored of the internet. Who thought that 10 years ago you would ever admit to this. It has reached it's peak for me - with the whole social networking scene, I'm tired of it.

Facebook has changed completely. Just because your home page is still blue and white, doesn't mean that the idea itself hasn't changed. Now everyone is on Facebook. I remember when it was a big deal when 13 year olds made fake accounts and they were getting banned. Now, I'll admit I was a bit late to the Facebook party, but still, I remember the 'golden days'.

So to has the death of MSN Messenger, now called Windows Live Messenger, come about as well. I have a small list of friends and almost no one is ever online. People change, friends grow apart, and the 6-7 simutaneous conversations you were having with your 'peeps' back in grade 9 is over with. This technology is outdated. It still works great but the problem is that no one uses it anymore.

Other than for Facebook, I use the internet to check the weather, my bank account, youtube for music and funny videos, and for TSN.ca. I guess you can also add updating my blog to that list as well. Look at me go, leaving things out.

I honestly believe though that the internet has reached it's peak. Of course the 'next big thing' will come along, causing millions of people to follow it like a religion. I believe however I won't be there. I'm not going to take part.

Facebook is something I use to keep in contact with friends, and of course updating your status is something more rewarding to me than Twitter. There's something I'll never understand, Twitter. I understand the appeal, it just does not translate to my life. Following celebrities is appearently fun for some, but that's just not for me. I don't need to know what kind of cream cheese Ashton Kucher had on his begal. I made that up and yet it sounds like something he may have tweeted, does it not?

I'll be keeping my Facebook but I would really like to delete it. Perhaps when I go back to school. Seeing as I will have basically no time to do anything else but study, I would enjoy the break.

One thing I would like to keep working on however is this blog.

Thanks for reading as always.

It's Been Awhile

It has been awhile my friends.

I have been without a working computer for a few weeks, and I have also neglected my blog - and that's not right.

But I'm back! And that is the most important thing.

I have my laptop working again. Who knows for how long. I bought a HP Pavilion tx 1000 tablet pc laptop three years ago. What a stupid idea that was. At the time I didn't know I had bought one of the worst laptops of all time. This thing is a lemon, and because I have not had it repaired more than 4 times, my warranty is no longer vaild - it ran out yesterday. I have had this thing repaired three times, all for the same reasons, the motherboad shortens out because of overheating and causes the screen to not function when turning the laptop on. If I had the laptop repaired three times within the warranty and brought it back a 4th time, within the warranty of course, I would have had it replaced.

So, in short, that's $1,399.00 I'll never get back. So be warned, never buy from HP. Not only do they create faulty products, but they don't back their work either. This brand of laptop is a lemon. There are thousands of people that have had this same problem. HP said they will never issue a recall and they are unaware of this problem.

I don't believe it.

I believe they are aware of the problem and in the end it is too costly to repair all of the models which are effected. Instead, they will wait until your warranty has expired and then offer that they will fix the problem for $400.00 out of your own pocket. Now, it was fixed under warranty 3 times, and for no cost, so the warranty paid for itself - but they should have the decency to back a product and make the repairs if it is something they messed up.

Anyways, I am back, and with all the ranting aside, I hope to write about more in the upcoming days.

Thanks for reading as always. I love my car. It has treated me very well for the amount of kilometers I have driven it in the past 3 years. That being said, I would love a new car, or truck, or just a new vehicle in general.

There are some people however that drive 2008 to 2010 vehicles, mainly cars and cross over SUVs as I have stated already, that have no idea what they are doing.

It's like, someone has just given them this car, and they have no idea how to use it.

There is currently a lot of construction going on at my building, and people are dealing with it in different ways. Some residents are driving through and over the piles of smashed up concrete, while others are backing into it and scratching their cars.

The construction company is not the most professional, but that is no excuse to become all upset because you can't back your car out of a normal space. If you had the ability to drive your car in reverse, then the problem would be solved.

I just sit back and shake my head.

How do these people pass their license testing. Better yet, how are they insured. I bet some people are paying less than $50.00 a month for their insurance, yet they are unable to drive more than 1 metre in reverse.

The residents of the building were aware that the construction was to begin today, as last night a crew was marking the areas in the parking lot that where to be under construction. Perhaps when you heard all of that noise, you know, the trucks backing up, and the constant pounding from the pavement being cut and smashed up, yeah, maybe you should have come down to see if your car was alright. I know that's the responsible thing to have done.

I request that the laws in Ontario be changed. Due to the fact that there are so many used vehicles in car lots, people with a new car that cannot drive must trade in their vehicle for one that is used, and those of us which can drive, can then go to the car lots and pick out the new vehicle of our choice.

It makes sense to me.

Why should the guy that's 800 years old drive the brand new Chrysler 300, driven off the lot, today. Better yet, what's with that lady driving the 2010 Lincoln MKS. She just dry steered, didn't use her signal, cut someone off, and then jumped on her breaks for a truck that's 10 meters in front of her.

I am not stereotyping anyone, these are just examples from my experiences. I'm sure there are bad drivers in both genders, and at every age, but like I said, this is just what I have seen.

I'll take my 2010 Ford 150 Raptor now, please.

Sleepless Nights

They're just awful.

Sleepless nights are probably the worst thing since sliced bread. That's the term isn't it, 'since sliced bread'. Who decided that 'sliced bread' was such a good thing anyways. I mean, was it really that hard to cut your own bread on a weekly basis, that you initially looked forward to purchasing sliced bread. These are the kinds of things that I think of on sleepless nights. Damn you Sun. It's only May and it's already this hot. What are you thinking?

I don't know if this is a trend or if global warming is actually true. I think the only people that believe in global warming are those of which without an air conditioner. As for me, I'll sleep in front of an open refrigerator if it means staying cool and having an enjoyable sleep.

I'm kidding. I wouldn't do that. But I'm so hot that it's getting rather desperate.

We'll be putting in our A/C for sure since this little heat wave, I can only imagine what it is going to be like in August. I'm certainly not doing this for the next 4 months. That's just ludicrous.

I bet your wondering, who uses the word ludicrous these days. Well, don't ask me, I'm so hot I'm going delusional.

Sleepless nights are like days when you're so constipated that you can't lay down, or sit down, and all you want to do is just scream because you're so uncomfortable, expect you don't have the energy because you should BE SLEEPING.

The air is so dry and humid it feels like we're living on Mercury. I don't like space travel anyways, so please, take me back to Earth - me no likey the change, you hear me Roscoe Chavez?

Look at this. I'm so hot my blog is being reduced to some form of free write. This needs to stop!

The good thing I guess is that I picked up my ticket for Cuba today. We'll be leaving in 11 days. Now if we're out of the clear of the oil spill and if it's not too humid there, I'll be golden like a Canadian Olympian whose sponsoring McDonald's.

Until then my one and only faithful reader.

(I'm referring to myself, because I have no idea who else reads this...)

Sweet dreams and viva la refrigerator!

Bloggin' is Difficult

It's hard to come up with things to write about.

I'm not even totally sure what this post is going to be about - perhaps my inability to write. Well, wouldn't that be boring. I bet no one wants to read about how I can't write: but it's true.

I started this blog with the purpose of giving myself an outlet. So for it has sat on the shelf for most of it's life, like a book you'll only read once before selling at a garage sale.

Have you ever seen something happen, or come up with an idea and say to yourself, "That would make an awesome movie, or short story, or even a play?" I've done this, and I do it constantly, each and every day. It's always the little things, the way someone says hello, or when they hold a door for you.

I could make a short story about how someone holds open a door for a stranger.

I know it sounds ridiculous, but it's the truth. Human subtlety is oddly interesting.

I suppose no matter who you are it can be difficult to process your thoughts from time to time. We all have those moments where the only way to express yourself is to scream. The problem is, sometimes we don't scream, and then that frustration builds up. There's nothing good that comes from that.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that I can see how the little things, become the big things.

I think I'm going to try my hand at writing something, fictional.

I suppose I'll have to brainstorm for a bit, and I don't expect to hit the ball out of the park on my first swing... but if it is something I enjoy doing, I'll continue it.

But, until then, I shall leave you with this piece of advice.

Never give up. It will be worth it someday.

Facefail

Facebook.

Yes, you know it well. You're online personality, your web persona, your 'Avatar' if you will.

You see, I have a problem with Facebook, and to avoid from rambling on, I'll just say it.

Facebook angers me.

What started out as a social networking site for students and professionals has quickly developed into an international conglomerate which has made you its dependent.

Okay, so Facebook suddenly disappears: What do you do? Are you upset? Are you confused? "What will we ever do without it!", some people will cry.

Facebook has made us dependent on Facebook. This is easy to see.

"Without it, how would we stay in touch with our friends and relatives?"

When Facebook dies, people will jump to the next big thing.

The world has become increasingly smaller due to the advances in technology and Facebook is perhaps the greatest example of this phenomenon.

So what can we do to stop this you ask. Well, unfortunately, there is no end in sight. Sooner or later something else will come along and capture the world's attention and gain their dependency. It is only a matter of time. Everything has a life cycle.

Until then I will remain angry at Facebook. And please, will you stop suggesting that I become friends with so-and-so... I don't even know them! They are friends of the family, geez!

To clarify, it is our dependence on Facebook that angers me. That being said, I am going to go and check my Facebook to see if anyone has commented on my latest witty status update!

Thanks for reading.

Mr. Seamus

So, I have a dog. Rather, a puppy. Seamus was born on December 17th, 2009. At 15 weeks, Seamus is both 'cute' and destructive all in one little doggie-bag package. Seamus is by far the most interesting and annoying part of my day, and it pains me to admit, I would miss him if he wasn't around.

Seamus is half Dachshund and half Pomeranian. He's known as a "dach-pom". I'm unsure as to whether the spelling is correct, but I believe it to be so.

I have had dogs before, but either they haven't lasted long because they were already old, or because they 'ran away' and were subsequently stolen by non-native people buying cigarettes from the plaza next to my house out on the reserve.

That being said, Seamus is a puppy, he's young and does not fully understand the innner-workings of the world. For example, at 6:10am, all I want to do is sleep. Seamus believes it's now time for a pee, then breakfast, then it's time two chase the cats. I suggest to you to never raise an energetic puppy in the same household as a half blind 5 year old cat - bad things happen to good cats.

He has his days however where he sleeps and naps throughout the day. I find it depends on the weather. When it is warm out, Seamus enjoys a 3-4 hour mid-afternoon nap, followed by going to bed early, and allowing myself some well needed R&R as well.

Seamus has a number of 'nicknames' that I often substitute for his real name. S-Man, Shay-manator, Sham-Wow, Barry Trotz, Snarls Barkey, 'The Ruhtard', Demon Spawn, Professor Pooington, Pees-a-lot, Roscoe and or Roscoe Chavez, Shay-Train and last but not least, any type of profanity which I yell at him for his bad behavior.

Seamus has developed an unhealthy obsession with shoes, feet, and different types of footwear. He will drag some shoes from the shoe rack to the carpet underneath the computer chair. It does not matter the size of the shoe, for example, Seamus enjoying anything from a flat to my winter boots. Socks, underwear, towels, and basically any piece of available clothing is up for grabs when the S-Man is around.

Seamus does however have a softer side as well. He is very good with meeting new people and new dogs, and I think this is primarily a result of his puppy classes at Pet Smart. With 8 weeks left in his training, Seamus is learning the skills he needs to survive in the same household as his greatest enemy... ME.

I do care for him, and I find it hard to imagine things without him. He's comedic side makes me laugh, and I know he'll eventually grow out of this stage. I'm definitely looking forward to his adulthood. Puppies are cute, but they're just not for me!

The Return

I have decided to start blogging again.

Now that you know, I bet your asking why... or at least you would like some explanation.

The truth is - I don't have one. This is my attempt to get my mind working once again; to start writing, without purpose, more for pleasure, more for me then anything else.

I am not completely sure as to what I'll write about - but I'm going to right, and yes... I know it's 'write', I just want to see if you're following along.

I need an outlet, and this shall be it.

Lost in Superior is the name of this blog.
